Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the last game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors anywhere in the world. While betting on internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He often plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I accept that Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world could be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen playing web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
