Net Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the final table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best bettors in the world. While participating in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the ability out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the best players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amt.. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
