Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to achieve last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players around the world. While wagering on web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amt.. I think tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen betting on net poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
