Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 where he enjoyed participating in different card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in these card games as he was competing against his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a little while and relocated to New York City to play some big-time chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he would play extensive hours and lose most times. He made some extra cash by being an runner for the poker players. He judged he could boost his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He brought about an attempt to get more sleep and focus more on the game.

The real improvement in his skills began when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest players would often wager against one another. He had access into a number of the best players in chess. With their assistance, he would sharpen his cunning thinking techniques. Howard used these strategy concepts in the game of NL hold’em.

He also assisted his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct decision. He told Annie to move out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the best women players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer relocated to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
