NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
