Net High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While playing internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total amt.. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be found playing net poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes Omaha and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
